Dealer Comments

1966 CHRYSLER VC VALIANT SEDAN - MANUAL - 33,134 ORIGINAL MILES

Presented here is a quite remarkable offering, a 1966 VC Valiant in manual and amazingly mostly original condition.

Sold new by Addison Motors Pty Ltd (Chrysler Dealers) of Port Road West Hindmarsh Adelaide on the 11th of July 1966.

We hold the original books and early service history for the car and they confirm it is all original and a matching numbers vehicle. Some early invoices for the first owner also confirm the original SA plates # 353-319 are still on the car, even though is was last registered in SA in 1987.

Powered by it's original slant six engine of 3.7 Litres (225ci), it produced when new 108Kw and 291Nm of power and torque, delivered to the rear wheels via a 3 speed column mounted manual gearshift. Performance figures suggested at the time 0-100kph in 11.1 secs and a top speed just over 160kph.

This vehicle has been in the one family almost since new and the owner's son has given us these words about his father's ownership of the car.

"My father purchased his first car in Australia back in 1970 which was also a VC valiant...Base model, white but automatic. This car served us well for many years. He loved it so much that he thought of purchasing another as a second car.

This car was advertised in the no longer Adelaide newspaper ¨THE NEWS¨
It was offered at $3000 and described as NEW and out of curiosity went to have a look at it.

They had already been offered $2700 by a local Chrysler/Mitsubishi dealer but wanted somebody that would purchase it and keep it original. He also had many young buyers very eager to modify it, so he accepted my fathers offer of $2750 knowing it would go to a good home and be looked after.

Car was sold by family member of the deceased original owner. He told us that in his later years had a bad leg and could not drive it because it was a manual so it was only used very occasionally when a family member would take him out on a drive. No one had ever sat in the rear seat whilst the car was driven (which we have also respected to the very day) and never driven when it rained or possibility of rain so wipers never used. Spare wheel and jack never used.

When purchased the car still had it´s original tyres from factory but after a few years gave way. We were lucky enough to find in a Victoria some brand new exact profile cross ply tyres which we had put on in 1990. The very last set and no longer available anywhere.

Under bonnet nothing has been changed except for filters and the spark plugs which were changed for first time last month since we´ve owned it. I think that the spark plug leads are still factory original. A month ago all brake shoes were changed which we believe was the first time since it left the factory. The 2 rear wheel brake cylinders were also changed because they were leaking. No other mechanical repairs have ever been done.

We realized that the car was in far too good condition to be a daily driver so it was sparingly used on weekends. Car had only 19,000 odd miles on the clock. Then in 1987 (last time registered) it was put away on stands in our double garage and covered. The car then only came out once a year on a permit to enter car shows where it won numerous trophies.

This occurred until 1998/99 when my father decided not to enter any more shows and the car was retired away on stands for good. It was religiously stared every fortnight and had its basic service done every year. The car was occasionally shown to unbelieving family and friends but had not seen day light until recently. Hence it was very emotional to see it in all its glory out in the sunlight 26 years later.

As far as we know and were told by previous owner that the car had some engine bay and bonnet paint done. Mainly due to battery acid damage.

On our part we had a professional painter (ex Chrysler factory) who had painted these cars on the assembly line to do some minor touch ups using the correct paint colour code.

He painted the outer under door sills which had been chipped and paint was flaking. And part of the right hand rear quarter which had a small chip/dent from the previous owner. But that is all and we are unaware of any touch ups done or not told of by previous owner.
Nothing in the interior has ever been touched or replaced."

Altogether a remarkable offering and I'm sure the current owners would love the car to be sold to a Chrysler fanatic who can continue to love and look after this vehicle in it's original condition.

The current SA plates 353-319 do not necessarily come with the car if sold in South Australia, but may be available via the SA Govt auctions.

Available to inspect on our state of the art showroom floor in Adelaide.

We can arrange transport door to door Australia wide.

Finance - our broker offers VERY competitive rates and prompt service.

We welcome the opportunity to consider your trade in.
